The Cockroach Janta Party on Friday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party sent “goons” to assault its team that had gone to inspect a government school in Rampura Kanwarpura village of Jaipur’s Bagru Assembly constituency.

The team had arrived in the village as part of the political campaign’s nationwide drive to improve the condition of government schools. Videos shared on social media showed some persons shouting slogans, hitting the team with sticks and throwing rocks at their vehicle.

“Vehicle windows were smashed, phones were broken, a woman was assaulted, my shirt was torn, and one of our team members suffered a fractured hand,” PTI quoted Cockroach Janta Party co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka as having alleged.

All levels of disgust have been crossed today.

He said that residents of the village were not involved in violence.

“People were sent from outside to incite violence,” alleged Ranka. “It was the villagers who had requested us to come and inspect the school.”

Mumbai: Gold and silver prices climbed to more than three-month highs in the national capital on Friday, extending gains for the second straight session as a weaker US dollar and overseas markets increased demand for precious metals.

Gold rises Rs 1,200

Gold of 99.9 percent purity jumped Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,63,500 per 10 grams, including taxes, according to traders. It had closed at Rs 1,62,300 on Thursday.

The metal was last near this level on May 19, when it traded at Rs 1,63,600 per 10 grams.

Silver jumps Rs 5,000

Silver surged Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,50,000 per kilogram, its highest level in 15 weeks. It had settled at Rs 2,45,000 on Thursday.

The white metal has gained Rs 15,000 over the last two sessions. It was last near this level on May 4, when it stood at Rs 2,49,500 per kilogram.

Global prices rally

In international markets, spot gold rose USD 81.58, or 2 percent, to USD 4,600.91 per ounce. It touched its highest level since May 18 and remained on course for a third weekly gain.

Spot silver climbed nearly 3 percent to USD 69.87 per ounce.

Experts said a weaker dollar and falling longer-term US Treasury bond yields supported bullion prices. Investment demand and movements in currency and bond markets also helped gold and silver.

What is driving bullion?

Gold has gained more than 4 percent this week after the US Treasury expanded its bond-buying programme and doubled long-term debt buybacks to control borrowing costs.

The move pushed the dollar and bond yields lower, giving support to bullion. Yields later stabilised as investors questioned whether the Treasury measures could provide lasting relief.

A decline in global oil prices also supported precious metals. Geopolitical worries increased after the Trump administration said it would announce its toughest economic sanctions against Iran.

INEOS signing must leave Man Utd if Carrick doesn’t start him in Hull – Opinion

A snub in Hull should serve as the last straw for Joshua Zirkzee, who would then have to request a departure from Manchester United.

Joshua Zirkzee could be snubbed again as Man Utd take on Hull City

Sadly for Zirkzee, his collaboration with Ten Hag proved short-lived as the latter was sacked in October 2024. Afterwards, he endured mostly rough times under Ruben Amorim, who at times criticised him for his tendency to roam all over the pitch rather than acting as a proper target man.

With Michael Carrick in charge, the Netherlands internaitonal is finding even less space.

Curiously, Zirkzee was one of the club’s best performers in the first few pre-season friendlies, only to be dropped from the starting lineup when World Cup participants gradually returned from their summer vacations, especially Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha, and Bruno Fernandes.

Therefore, all signs suggest that, despite Benjamin Sesko’s continued absence, Zirkzee won’t be in the starting XI when Man Utd kick-start their Premier League campaign against Hull City on Saturday (12:30 UK time).

Time for Zirkzee to take a hint and find a new club

In theory, Zirkzee’s unconventional style should complement Sesko’s. But if the Dutchman isn’t given a starting role even when the Slovenian is missing, then what’s the point of keeping him in the squad?

Moreover, the former Bologna star, who has a full pre-season in his legs (and a positive one), is being overlooked in favour of others, who have only returned to full training in recent weeks.

Luckily for Zirkzee, he remains a popular figure in Italy, with Juventus and Napoli both keen to sign him before the end of the summer.

Hence, if Carrick decides to keep him by his side in the dugout tomorrow, Zirkzee should heed the writing on the wall and ask the management and his agents to take all necessary steps to find him a new home, as another season on the bench would be brutal for his career path.
