Home of Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb burglarized during team's training camp stay

The Cowboys are coming home after spending nearly a month in Oxnard, Calif. One of the team's superstars had an unfortunate and costly bit of trouble back at the house while he was away.

The Fairview, Tex. home of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was burglarized in the early-morning hours of July 30, according to police reports, just a few days after the team had reported to Oxnard, Calif. to begin their annual training camp stay. Four luxury bags were reported stolen, valued at $300,000.

Per police records obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the burglar apparently entered Lamb's home through a broken window. A worker doing a renovation job on the property reported the incident the following afternoon after finding evidence of the break-in.

Lamb is the latest high-profile pro athlete to fall victim to a property crime in recent years. Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Travis Kelce, Shedeur Sanders, and onetime Cowboys defensive tackle Linval Joseph all experienced home break-ins that occurred while they were traveling with their teams or actively playing in a game. The residences of Richard Sherman and Saquon Barkley were targeted while their families were home. Several NBA and NHL players have been similarly victimized.

Seven men have been arrested and charged since 2024 in connection with some of those burglaries, with thieves having used the publicized travel, practice, and game schedules of the players to target their homes.

No one has yet been identified or charged in the incident at Lamb's home, police say, but the investigation is ongoing.

‘Chakmak’: A poetry collection about tribal life is essential for the re-education of the urban mind

Some time ago, I spent a week staying among and interacting with the staff and the students at three remote tribal schools of Dahanu Taluka in Maharashtra’s Palghar District. I stayed long enough to catch bursts of ebullience on the school playground day after day. That ebullience is the very force of nature running through their veins – the nature that they don’t see themselves as being distinct from.

Ramesh Karthik Nayak’s poetry collection Chakmak is replete with bursts of the very same ebullience throughout this book. It is best manifested in the way Nayak constructs his imagery. The abstract nouns or the qualitative adjectives that account for the lock, stock, and barrel of much of the imagery in mainstream poetry are not his weapons. Instead, it is the action verbs that convey the images in his poems. Consider the way Nayak captures nightlife in a forest:

Bats and owls
ransack the night.

He strips the image to the bare minimum and then lets the verb carry it. All the vividity and the vivacity of that image come from that one word: ransack. Even when an image is loaded with sensory words, it is his verbs that carry the image:

The ambience
of pollen dust-stained fireflies
churn darkness.
