The route to professional basketball cut through Central Massachusetts for Alex Karaban and Aaron Nkrumah.

The one-time local standouts are expected to cap the journey — and realize the dream — in the coming days during the NBA Draft.

ESPN's mock draft has Karaban being picked early in the second round. For Nkrumah, the latest prediction is middle of the second round.

The two-day NBA draft begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.

Nkrumah, a guard, starred at Worcester's South High and Tennessee State. He also had stops at Quinsigamond Community College, Nichols College and Worcester State University.

Karaban, a forward who lives in Southborough, attended a few high schools before starring at the University of Connecticut, where he claimed two national titles. He played hoop at St. Peter-Marian, Algonquin Regional or the New Hampton School.

The last player from Central Mass. selected in the NBA Draft was Worcester’s Michael Bradley, who was first-round pick (No. 17 overall) of the Toronto Raptors in 2001.
