It's one of those moves you don't actually believe is going to happen until it happens.

Mike Evans really left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He plans to sign with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.

It's a shocker, even if some started to report it might happen.

Evans is coming off his worst NFL season, as injuries limited him to just eight games with 30 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns.

Evans has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 NFL seasons, a record.

He has 866 career catches for 13,052 yards and 108 touchdowns.

All of that was with the Bucs.

His next chapter will be with the 'Niners.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this on X on Monday afternoon:

"Mike Evans’ decision to leave Tampa was not about money; the Bucs were aggressive in their pursuit and presented what was said to be a 'very strong offer.' It came down to a desire for a new challenge as Evans enters the last years of his career."

He's got that challenge now.

The 49ers are a marquee franchise, and they want to win a Super Bowl.

They've got the head coach, Kyle Shanahan. They've got the QB, Brock Purdy. And now they've got the prototypical No. 1 wide receiver.

If Evans can stay healthy, the ceiling is high for San Francisco.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers will simply miss the best receiver they've ever had.
