The Seattle Mariners are coming off a very impressive season and did what they had to do in the offseason. As long as the Mariners stay healthy on the mound, they’ll be one of the better teams in baseball.

Offensively speaking, while the Mariners aren’t in a bad spot on that side of the baseball, they could certainly use more, just as every contender. Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Shea believes a way to improve their offense would be in a trade with the Chicago Cubs for a respected infielder.
Mariners get: Nico Hoerner
Cubs get: Emerson Hancock, Colt Emerson, Cole Young
“The Mariners would benefit immediately from this trade, as Hoerner would improve their contact rate, infield defense, and baserunning efficiency while stabilizing the top of their lineup. He would likely slot into the No. 2 spot, giving Seattle a dependable table-setter ahead of its power hitters, and his team-friendly contract through 2026 makes him more than just a short-term rental,” he wrote.
Hoerner’s elite contact skills, defensive versatility, and other little things he does would only make Seattle better as it searches to get to the top of the baseball world.
This is the type of trade that would be tough to make, though, as giving up on Hancock, Emerson, and Young certainly comes with risk. Hancock has already shown he can be very good and Young and Emerson are expected to have long and successful careers.
However, if the Mariners want to go all in while this staff is this good, it’s not the worst idea to give Hoerner a chance.
