Earlier this year at UFC 250, Ilia Topuria received arguably the beating of his lifetime from Justin Gaethje. Topuria escaped the match with a brutal loss and a disfigured face, which raised the question of him ever entering the octagon again.
The Spaniard suffered two broken orbital bones, a shattered septum, and a broken foot during his undisputed lightweight championship match against Gaethje at UFC 250. Now, a few months later, both Topuria and UFC President Dana White have opened up about his return.
A few days ago, Topuria finally broke his silence with a nine-part essay on his website. In the message, he opened up about his physical condition as well as a peek into his post-fight mental state. Topuria shared that he could not even look at himself in the mirror the day after his loss to Gaethje.

With a clear drop in confidence, fans expected Topuria to take an extended break from the cage and recover from both his physical and mental beatdown. However, it now seems “El Matador” is ready for his return.
In a recent interview with Jim Rome, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Topuria is ready for his comeback fight. “Our guys are always in touch with him. We don’t have him on the schedule right now, but Topuria is ready to fight, and we’re ready for him.”
However, despite the confirmation, UFC has not yet confirmed a location, date, or event for Topuria’s comeback. The 29-year-old has been a part of the UFC since 2020 and has won two multi-division titles. He is both a former lightweight and featherweight champion.
